The Human Relations Movement Of George Elton Mayo - 949 Words

Managers throughout history have been interested in studying ways to increase productivity. For example, Frederick Taylor began the movement of scientific management in the 1880’s. Scientific management looked to improve productivity through means of scientific analysis of worker’s tasks and work processes rather than the old â€Å"rule of thumb† (Taylor, 1914). Taylor believed that he could maximize worker efficiency and productivity through focusing on workers specific hand motions and patterns. After this period, beginning in about the 1930’s, managers looked to take productivity to yet another level by studying worker physiology and motivation. This new movement came to be known as the human relations movement. George Elton Mayo is credited with founding the human relations movement. Mayo conducted an experiment in the 1920’s and 1930’s know as the Hawthorne study. Two of the main aspects of the study centered around illumination in the work place and varying levels of break time and work hours (Wickstrà ¶m, 2000). The illumination study consisted of four different experiments over the course of three years. In each experiement, there was a control group and a study group. In the varying studies, the researchers experimented with varying levels of light and varying sequences of increasing and decreasing the level of light (â€Å"Hawthorne effect†). Throughout the experiments, researchers would often find patterns of increased productivity, leading them to believe that they hadShow MoreRelatedHuman Problems Of An Industrialized Civilization1460 Words   |  6 PagesElton Mayo was born in South Australia in 1880 and passed away in Guildford, Surrey in 1949. Productivity And Profitability For Company â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Productivity And Profitability For Company? Answer: Introduction: The company chosen for the assignment is BP, formerly known as British Petroleum, started in 1908 post discovery of oil in Persia, and since then the company has transited from coal, oil, gas, to now finding new sources of energy. The company has its headquarters in London and is headed under the leadership of Bob Dudley(BP, 2017). It is amongst the top 10 largest companies in the oil and gas sector. BP remains controversial even to this day, owing to its multiple oil spills, explosions and environmental hazards. The problem here lies with the management, not givng any attention to the alarms raised by the employees repeatedly, complete disregard for the reports by internal auditors devastated the company. The leaders of the company were neglecting all these claims to be in the good books of the stakeholders, they wanted to increase the productivity and profitability for the company, hence in turn they ended up compromising on the safety procedures.(Zarroli, 2010.) BP has been at the helm of lot of public scrutiny owing to its gulf oil spills, costing them $20Bn as fines to the US govt, (Rushe, 2015) Alaska spill, deepwater horizon spill and many more. The oil spill in the gulf ocean had ruined the ecosystem situated in the Mexican gulf, and the company had to face extreme scrutiny for the same. The company though in order to clean up the mammoth oil spill have hired a SCATS team, which patrol daily on the shore and look for traces of oil (International Resource Journal,2012) Organization Theory: This can be understood as different approaches to understanding organizations, which lays the framework for the code and conduct of the organization ( Turner, 2014). Some of the prominent theories are: Agency Theory: It is a hypothesis which explains the relationship between principals agents in the business. It can also be concerned with resolving problems that can exist in agency relationship due to unaligned goals or different aversion levels of risk (Luger, Mammen Haleblian, 2015) Institutional Theory: This can be understood as a theory on the deeper and stronger aspects of social structure, it considers the processes by which structures, schemes , social norms, routines becomes established as authoritative guidelines for social behavior (Keohane Martin, 2014) Bureaucracy Theory: This theory can be understood in 2 parts , the first one being structuring an organization into a hierarchy and the second being, the organization and its memebrs is governed by clearly defined rational-legal and decision making rules, thus laying the groundwork for the theory (Lianos, 2014). Stakeholder Theory: This is a theory of organizational management business ethics that addresses morales and values in managing an organization. It is a big umbrella which also intakes shareholder theory , which says that the managers have an underlined duty to maximize shareholderss interest (Harrison Wicks, 2013) Stewardship Theory: This theory is an alternate to the agency theory, in this , managers, left on their own, will act as responsible stewards and manage the assets that they control. In this type, the shareholders interest are maximized as the managers are working toward aligning and same goals (Neubaum, 2013) Issues at BP: As mentioned in the introduction , BP has always been into controversy because of its failure to address the concerns and queries rasied in the past , the difficulty and showing complete negligence towards the report of its internal auditors and alarms raised by its employees, have earned them a really bad reputation in the industry(Frontline, 2010) This has also adversely affected its employee branding, although BP has done a lot of Corporate social responsibility work to remove this tarnish from their reputation , but there is still a lot of ground that has to be covered and a lot of work to do in order to avoid such mishappenings in the future or to the least minimize them (Lustgarten, 2010). Such incident can be strictly attributed to mismanagement and it clearly falls under the purview of Agency theory. Aggressive cost cutter CEO-Lord john browne was an engineer and a BP maanger who earned his reputation as the aggressive cost cutter, was promoted to the post of CEO, he was one of the importnt persons to have take BP to the heights it is at now. In the process , he made a lot of decisions which did not go down well in the history , cutting costs for hiring employees , buying cheap inventory for oil exploration etc. All this has lead down to a lot of explosion and spill. Capital expenditures being treated as useless expenditures: A senior manager in an email wrote to the employees , its better to save money for now than for later, resuting in negligent safety practices. Failure in compliance requirement: Alaska oil spills, in the history of world disasters will always be remembered, report says that many a times concerns were raised to the management to get the oil pipelines inspected , but nothing was ever done , the bare minimum was done after the workers went on a strike, it was observed later that the inspectors who were incharge of inspecting the pipelines were not certified and qualified to do the same , hence resulting in explosion later that year(Moon, 2015). It can be attributed to agency theory and overlooking the compliance required. Company being too much top down and not directive: In one of the interview , Mr Hayward( CEO in 2000s ) clearly said that the organizational structure at BP is extensively top down, too directive and people are really not open to listening, this clearly shows a faulty organization structure and hence the practices. The senior management if not open to communication then the entire process goes for a toss and lack of trust prevails in the system. Unhappy shareholders because of falling share prices: Due to all the explosion and oil spill happening , the share prices were falling considerably and the shareholders were extremely unhappy with the way things were going , hence Hayward was removed and a new CEO was brought in , completing neglecting the major issues for all the hazard , example of shareholder theory , where the shareholders interests have to be valued at any cost. Not taking ownership and responsibility for the events: Barring a few leaders , the entire company was trying to cover up for the hazards , the inability to own the mistakes and accountability of their own actions was a serious concern which nobody gave head to, hence resulting in cultural indifferences as well. Analysis: It is a no brainer that all the hazards which happened at BP were a simple failure of organizational structure and poor management. The lack of communication among the managers , the fear of senior management, absence of effective communication , giving no heads to the alarm raised by the team members, no accountability for the actions and to shy away from ones own responsibility is the major cause of all the mishappening. It can also be said that the leaders were not at all , in the minutest capacity effective or responsible to change the culture of 100 year old organization , they were all dogmatic and non persuasive and non communicators , who were only focused on increasing the shareholders interest and money, in the process neglecting processes/operations/safety concerns environmental hazards(Goldenberg, 2011). It is a failure in leadership which led to such big disasters, the inability to communicate and change the culture by the leaders and senior management is the biggest le sson BP have learnt (Cooks, 2010) In BP corporate culture, it is a mix of agency theory and stewardship theory , both of which are opposite to each other. Stewardship says to leave the managers to do their duty and they will in all their capacity focus on the development of the company and its people, with no/least control from the directors, and are allowed to take their own decisions, which is absolutely perfect, but in presence of agency theory wherin the principal directors take all the call and managers are puppets in the hands of the directors, this led them to not raise any concern to the management and ignore all the alarms raised by the employees in order to safeguard themselves against the possible wrath in foront of the directors, is the most important reason for all the hazards happened at BP and an example of overpowering Agency theory. Recommendation to Leaders at BP: Difficult situations/Crisis expose dysfunctional organizational cultures:BPs strategy of dealing with difficult situation by trying to spin it off and not tackling it as a haed on, lead to a lot of distrust and resentment in public eyes, what should be done in such situations is to face them and fix the problem where it erupted. Leaders are there to serve the company, people and communities One of the best qualities for the leaders is to think beyond themselves and work towards a bigger goal , making the company big , people happy and communities strong , no matter at whatever cost , but this perpetual pursuit towards serving can only keep a company strong, successful and powerful. Leaders need to work together and develop synergies: Leaders have to create synergies among other members and work towards overall development of all. Leaders should be pro-active in assesing any situation or company performance and should be the first person to act and guide the entrie organization, and at the same time keep the directors aligned and informed. Effective communication: Communication is pivotal to any organization, effective communication is what ideally should be in any company. Its the duty of the management to lay the importance of communication in their teams and in the entire company. It should be strictly independent of organization structure, hierarchy, culture, management approach, etc, the communication should be free flowing and their should always be a door for redressal of grievances. Essentials of Negotiation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Essentials of Negotiation - Essay Example   Describe your negotiation style. My negotiation style tends to be integrative and principled. My primary strength is that I have a good motive in seeking to obtain a win/win situation for all parties; I want to define the goals and maximize the objectives for everyone within a discussion framework that has fair standards and a high level of integrity. The weakness in my position is that a dishonest bargainer could possibly use my desire for consensus to manipulate me through deceit or hardball tactics. 3a.1 I had two friends who engaged in an integrative bargain resulting in a win/win situation. ... The first had a vehicle with relatively high monthly payments. His objective was to get out from under the financial strain and he wasn't concerned with making a profit on the deal. My other friend didn't really need another car but liked our friend's vehicle more than the one what she was driving. They both wanted to make sure the other achieved sensitive to the other's position their objective. She sold her vehicle, bought his for the payoff and, after refinancing with the down payment from the sale of her car, obtained lower monthly payments for herself. Everyone ended up happy. 3a.2 A family friend was the chief financial officer for his company. In analyzing the corporate debt, he determined that a refinance of the mortgage would save thousands of dollars. He called in his banker and asked for a reduced interest rate. At first, the banker was reluctant, but when the CFO mentioned that he could find a better deal at a competing bank if he moved all of the company's accounts (savings, checking, and investments), the banker quickly conceded. The company got a reduced payment and the banker kept the all of the accounts, the loss of which would have cost far more than lowering the interest rate. Even though a concession was made, both parties ultimately won. 3b. Win/Lose 3b.1 One of my relatives knew an individual that had come into some very difficult financial conditions. That person wanted to sell their car to pay off a hospital bill. My relative knew exactly what the other person owed on the car, and hard balled them into taking a price that yielded a $500 profit by pulling out the cash and putting it on the hood.  Ã‚

Diversity Issues in a Healthcare Setup Assignment

Diversity Issues in a Healthcare Setup - Assignment Example Moreover, it promotes efficacy and timeliness as its programming is guided by the objectives that would promote productivity. Kennedy highlighted the broad responsibilities of every human resource department and elaborated the importance of their competency. He so illustrated that beside duties that include hiring, training, compensation, development and event planning, the HR departments should be cohesively knit to meet other requirements like the changes in every environment. Changes, as the author noted, may include the rapidly expanding cultural diversity of the nation. Such would require that every department and all its members objectively meet cultural competence as a purpose. This is a strategy that can be achieved through mechanisms that involve training and even retention of the competent staff members. Anderson and Scrimshaw elaborate the significance of cultural competence in every healthcare setup. They so explained that cultural diversity has affected service delivery. This is a factor that has largely been projected through misunderstanding/misinterpretations and in some extreme instances, insensitivity, and discrimination. These factors, as the authors illustrated, have largely negated the elements that define productivity in healthcare setups; cohesion, awareness, and precision. The authors, therefore, highlighted programs that can get used for cultural integration and the facilitation of service delivery. The programs include training in cultural competency or even the application of interpreter services. Essentially, such programs eliminate the cultural parities that are caused by cultural incompetence in staffs. The author noted the developments in the healthcare system in 2004 as the staffs encompassed cultural diversity and competence amongst their core objectives.

High School Essay Example for Free

High School Essay I like to believe that everyone has their own goals and dreams they would like to accomplish. Every person’s dreams and goal differ from one another. My name is Gwendolyn Pavon, and I too, have goals and dreams that I hope to accomplish. Having a future and a good career is something I have always dreamed about. My current academic goals are to stay in school. Being in school is my main priority, and focusing on my schoolwork is important to me. I have the opportunity to be in school and receive financial help and I won’t let this opportunity pass by. I realize how hard things are getting in the real word. Careers are becoming harder to find and to keep, therefore I’m willing to get an education to get a good career. I never really had people to motivate me to stay in school until my senior year in high school. I opened up to my English teacher about a couple things, and she made me realize a lot. I remember being younger and my father telling me to say in school, but after he left I didn’t have much motivation. My English teacher always pushed me into doing my work and staying in school. It felt nice knowing she cared about me getting an education. She helped me with scholarship applications, with getting everything done to get into college and helped me out with anything I needed. College isn’t as easy as high school, but I’m honestly willing to do anything to get a degree and hopefully become a nurse one day. All the work, and waking up early will be worth it in the future. Soon I will have to get a job and save money for my own car. I’m not so sure if having a job and being in school will be so easy, but if it gets tough I will not give up. I have understood that there will be complicated times in life, but the one thing I will never do is give up. I don’t have much people to push me into doing what I want, but I push and motivate myself. I want the best things in the world, and having the best things means working hard to get them. I’m not the smartest person out there, but I know that I’m a pretty bright person. Although being in school isn’t something I like so much, I have decided to continue going. My weaknesses as a learner outweigh my strengths. I can get very distracted easily and I have trouble staying focused on a topic. I have to constantly remind myself to get back on topic. Getting  distracted interferes with my learning, but I work at it every day to try to focus on my work. The good thing is that if something really interests me, I give it my full attention. Being in school and sitting through fifty minute classes isn’t something I always enjoy but I do have days where I enjoy the classes. Focusing on my school work will be a little complicated for me, but I’m willing to put in all my effort to continue my education. Getting an education, being successful, and accomplishing my goals and dreams are really important to me. I will prove to people that I will be successful and continue getting an education.

Keeping up with the Jones :: essays research papers

The expression, â€Å"Keeping up with the Joneses† a very common quote that, Juliet Schor, used in her work, The New Politics of Consumption, could not fit a society more. The average household debt excluding mortgage is estimated fifteen thousand dollars, eight thousand of that debt comes from credit cards. (Paul Bannister, bankrate.com) Credit cards are becoming a huge problem in our society that it is affecting more than just consumerism. It’s affecting the way we live.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Everywhere public place you go it is hard not to run in to the idea of the credit card. You will see credit card logos on the front of every business. Every department store you go in has it’s own version of a credit card from Target to Macy’s. The Diner’s Club Card that originally was only for businessmen to eat lunch at 27 different restaurants. Now it is accepted almost everywhere. And for everything else there’s Mastercard†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦(or Visa, Discover Card orAmerican Express. Currently there are 1.2 billion active credit cards used in the United States. A typical purchase on a credit card cost more than 112% then a purchase paid for by cash. Americans are not only purchasing items on their credit cards as they go on shopping sprees. They are now paying their rent, tuition, utilities, car payments, and anything else they can think of. 9 in 10 credit cards users say that their credit card debt is nothing they worry about, but 47% of these people refused to tell a friend exactly how much they owe. (Paul Bannister, bankrate.com).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Initially when people receive a credit card they state that it is for â€Å"emergency purposes only†. However, that does not seem to be the case. For some, keeping up with the Joneses is an emergency. Heaven forbid, a sale at the GAP. Fewer people are saving money. Instead they rely on the plastic. However, the average credit card holder pays $1200 just in credit card interest. You would think that those individual would figure this out and start putting that $1200 into saving for â€Å"emergency purposes only†.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  It seems odd that so many people say that they their credit card debt is nothing they worry about. When people have been filing bankruptcy more and more. In 1991, the rate of 25 years and under that filed for as rose to 50%. Maybe this has to do with so many Universities and Colleges allowing banks and credit card companies to hound financial uneducated students on campuses with promises of a free calling card or hopes of winning a plasma TV for their dorm room.

But these things also – Edward Thomas

Things Also ‘But these things also' brings â€Å"to the centre of attention what has previously overlooked†, as Judy Kendall writes. Thomas explores his fascination with the unimportant in this poem and looks at the connection and merging together of Spring and Winter. Much like his other poetry, here, Thomas struggles to put his finger on precisely what he means. This Is shown by his Inability to separate and distinguish between the two seasons. The poem begins with the first two lines focusing on Spring, however, by allowing this with two lines focusing on Winter, Thomas explodes our first expectations of usual ‘spring poetry of bright and beautiful Images. Instead, he catches the limbo between the two seasons and we are presented with the Idea of the grass being long dead' and ‘greyer now. This pessimistic tone Is not what one usually connotes with springtime, but with the cold and bleak winter. By putting the images of the two seasons so close together in this stanza, Thomas reinforces his presentation of their connection. The last line of the stanza, than all the winter it as', changes the natural syntax of the words. The stress focuses of ‘it was', emphasizing what has past, which creates a sense of longing, introducing the idea that, like in ‘March', Thomas is desperate to find the key' the last two lines of the first stanza finish with the words ‘now and ‘was', bringing together images of the movement of time and emphasizing the gap between the present and the past and importantly, Thomas focus on that gap.The second stanza uses instance to look at things, which are seemingly unimportant. These things show the remains of winter, therefore connecting the seasons further. Once again, Thomas alters the syntax of the words to create a more beautified image. ‘ The word ‘bleached' would usually have a much more negative connotation of fading and perhaps even the loss of hope, however By placing the wo rd at the end of the first line and after the word ‘little' he takes away the harshness of the sound and makes it more delicate and gentle. As well as this, Tomato's use of enjambment stresses the soft ‘L' sounds in the shell of the little snail', which further emphasizes the smoothness of the words. Following this, the surreal pause halfway long the second line, highlights the plosive sounds on the image of the ‘chip of flint'. This draws our attention to the minute details, which Thomas considers and accentuates the signs that spring is not quite here yet. By observing nature In this much detail, we see how valuable Thomas considers It to be, It creates a sense that although these things are small and often overlooked, they are significant. The final Image In this stanza is of the ‘purest white' bird dung. At first It appears odd to be beautifying such a thing as bird dung, but by following It with the words ‘purest white, Thomas Introduces an Idea of I nnocence and positively, as well as a contrast with the previous Image of something ‘greyer now'. This brief glimmer of hope however, Is shattered in the next stanza. In stanza three, the image of White' no longer has positive connotations. But it and death. This instantly darkens the tone and the notion of mistaking bird dung for violets presents the idea that Thomas is truly desperate for any indication of springs arrival. The following violent images of Winter's ruins' and Winter's debts' create an oppressive feeling which moves further from the previous idea of hope. Continuing the pattern of Thomas other poetry, the word ‘something appears ambiguous and vague, creating a sense that Thomas still isn't quite clear on what it is we are paying Winter's debts' with. The final stanza of ‘But these things also' begins to fill us with hope once more. The ‘chattering' birds create a sense of rising morale and the idea of keeping their ‘spirits up' sounds opti mistic. Despite this, when we eventually think that Thomas is going to make a definitive statement, ‘springs here' he reintroduces the feeling of ambiguity with the words Winter's not gone'. This leaves the poem with a sense of not knowing and uncertainty. This reminds us of Thomas tendency to never give absolutes and that he likes balancing a positive idea with a negative. This paradox leaves us with the idea that the winter is preventing the spring from arriving. Throughout the poem, there is a regular rhythm, given by the Iambic Tetrameter, which is occasionally shortened to show the indecisive and unclear seasons. There is never a climax during this poem due to it all being one long sentence. Roberts talks about Thomas use of enjambment and fluidity, which gives a sense of him thinking and working through his thoughts.

War Brings Peace

First M . Last Name Professor ‘s Name Class and Number 7 February 2007 Can War Bring Peace ? War is considered as a particular branch of a specific philosophy , with Carl von Clausewitz being considered as the â€Å"only philosopher of war ‘stated in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy . It also says that it refers to , â€Å"a phenomenon which occurs only between political communities ‘ or â€Å"certain political pressure groups , like terrorist organizations , might also be considered `political communities ‘ in that they are associations of people with a political purpose (Stanford ,War , 2005 . On the other hand , peace is the pursuit of justice with opposite methods of human diversity and who seek peace are more or less responsible for social changes in visionary ways , while the proponents of war are considered to be narrow minded with one thing in mind – to win something they want , using whatever methods they need to accomplish this . Rel igion has been blamed as the cause of many wars , yet they considered themselves to be an advocacy for non-violence . A source of conflict ,religion is also a philosophy and practitioner of peace . Contradictory in itself , this explains the conflicting views bringing war into existence . Not all wars are caused by opposing religious views , but the majority of them are . Jenny Teichman wrote in The Philosophy of War and Peace that â€Å"Aggressive wars have often been waged for religious reasons and still are today (Teichman , 2002 , pg . 2 . According to Alexander Mosley in Philosophy of War , â€Å"man cannot stop war – it is his nature to wage war ‘ which backs my theory that war is the product of man ‘s ideas and hence is a product of choice . We fight for peace through war , and war continues on until peace comes into being–these are contradictory statements . Peace found through war is not peace , only a win-win situation , or a give-in situation at the cost of lives , money , and and power win â€Å"Man chooses war , and by this is meant that each individual participant chooses war (or has to choose differently , if war is thrust upon him through invasion or conscription ‘Mosley also states that , â€Å"The individual is a volitional being , whose cognition is free to use and direct and in group activity such as a battle , each individual must contribute his thought and effort — even if only accepting the orders of others (Mosley , pg . 39 . Does this refer to the desire for peace – hardly . It refers to the fact many are at war through the desires of others for ulterior gain that has nothing to do with achieving peace . There is nothing wrong with different views – they are only different ,with each individual thinking their viewpoint is the correct one -unfortunately , many feel their way is correct for abs olutely everyone with everyone else wrong or evil . To sum it up , how each one goes about getting their way is what sets the scene for war or peace : one may peacefully go about it with diplomatic and peaceful ways , such as†¦

Her Personality

Is It True That Ones Birth Order Effects His/Her Personality Significance of the Chosen Topic for Social Scientific Analysis The main research question for the present social scientific analysis sounds as the following: Does the birth order of a child impact on child’s personality and behavior?Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Is It True That One’s Birth Order Effects His/Her Personality? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More At the outset, well known factors that cause or shape personality include the family. Hartshorne (2010) explicates that the common belief that the family setting is significant in shaping our personality so much that our IQ is almost dependent on the family as a socialization agent is true. As such, there is the growing need to understand whether birth order that is an aspect of the family comes any close in shaping one’s behavioral characteristics and ultimately the personality. Birth order refers to the birth position one’s hold a mongst siblings. The first born, second born, last born are various birth orders, which would be imperative in the resolution of the current impasse that surrounds the topic. Understanding the impact of birth order on personality provides a platform where parents may understand the behaviors of their children in a better way (Herrera, Zajonc, Wieczorkowska, Cichomski, 2003). Besides, the parents may comprehend the potential abilities of the children as well as the behaviors that are typical of a specific birth order. Presentation of Three Research Problems With regard to the presented questions, three research problems have been identified that can contribute to addressing the main question effectively: Which tools should be used to assess the relation between birth order and family size? Which methods can be used to measure personality development with regard to child’s position in a family? Are there any scientific theories that can be applied to define the relations bet ween child’s position and his/her character traits? All these questions combined can provide an extensive and systematic overview of the main research questions and justify the fact of direct connection between birth order and child position. Rationale for the Social Scientific Analysis Applied to Each of Three Research Problems In order to provide answers to the above-identified questions, it is imperative to apply to a mixed method approach based on qualitative and quantitative analysis of the obtained data. Specifically, the first question can be answered with the implementation of statistical analysis of the sample population to define the family size of each family that will participate into the interviews. Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! The data analysis will allow to define whether children of similar age take different birth order position in the family. It will also contribute to drawing the correlation between age of children and their psychological characteristics at this age with regard to family position. For example, it will help to answer the question about the similarities and differences in character traits with regard to age and position. To answer the second questions, observational method should be used. Hence, interviews with children and parents can help to define the attitudes and behaviors of children with regard to the role they perform in their families. Finally, in order to answer the third question, a peer-reviewed research should be conducted to compare the interview results with the existing researches in the field. The application of mixed methods is justified studying human behavior from a qualitative perspective provides insufficient outlook on certain phenomenon and objects. For example, ignorance of quantitative methods can lead to inaccuracy of percentage calculation, which will definitely provide ambiguity to the interview results. It will be impossible to transcribe interviews without introducing statistical data and correlating it with qualitative results. Analyzing the Extent to Which the Chosen Topic Question Can Be Examined by Applying the Scientific Method According to the Howe (2011), the choice of mixed method analysis of the research question is completely justified, despite the assumption that natural sciences are more associated with quantitative research methods whereas social sciences are more attained to qualitative methods to study human behavior. A closer look at natural sciences reveals that both quantitative and qualitative methods can equally contribute to the scientific research. Much more evidence is found concerning the use of quantitative methods for exploring natural sciences. This method is traditionally considered as the basic one for investigating different statistical information in such disciplines as biology, chemistry, or mathematics. This conventional outlook on the methodologies distribution is represented by a positivist movement (Howe, 2011). Despite this stereotype, recent researches have argued the applicability of qualitative methods and mixed methods to natural sciences. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Is It True That One’s Birth Order Effects His/Her Personality? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More At this point, distinction between qualitative and quantitative methods chosen for analyzing physical and natural sciences can prevent a study from meeting validity and reliability standards. Nevertheless, a priority is still given to a quantitative analysis, when it comes to natural sciences. Comparative Analysis of the Research Methods Required For the Formulated Question and the Scientific Methods in the Context of t he Natural or Physical Sciences Though natural sciences can apply to mixed research methods, they still apply to different theoretical frameworks and stages of research analysis. At this point, use of different methods is not the factor that differentiates natural and scientific methods. In fact, both natural and social discipline can imply the use of mixed approaches, but the different will lie in the goals and interests pursued by scientists. For instance, a natural scientist is more concerned with the natural events, as well as how they can be analyzed with regard to the abstract knowledge whereas a social scientist is interested in theoretical generalizations and frameworks that would contribute to analyzing human behavior. Hence, they want ascribe human actions to theoretical perspectives. Regarding the formulated questions, analysis of interview questions combined with statistical and demographic data, as well as review of related literature can presents a new theoretical pe rspective for studying the role birth as a factor shaping personality traits. The mixed research applied to natural studies, the focus will be made on how theories can explain a specific natural phenomenon. Discussing Whether a Social Science Perspective Must Rely on the Scientific Method in the Same Way That Natural and Physical Science Would Due to the identified stages of exploring the research questions, it will first start with gathering quantitative data that will later be processed in combination with qualitative data. As a result, the quantitative study will serve as a framework for building concepts and developing qualitative studies. Such an approach, however, will not provide consistent findings when applied to natural and physical sciences because it is impossible to analyze statistical data first with no reference to qualitative phenomenon. Therefore, mixed approach can only be applied to natural sciences in a very narrow context and for specific purposes because natu ral sciences are more subjected to causality. So, absence of sequence can prevent from delivering accurate results. In contrast, human scientist should rely solely on rational chain of causalities and, therefore, more emphasis on the qualitative data analysis should be placed.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Misuse of Connective Symbols with Numbers

Misuse of Connective Symbols with Numbers Misuse of Connective Symbols with Numbers Misuse of Connective Symbols with Numbers By Mark Nichol In each of the following sentences, a connective symbol is employed in a reference to numbers or numerical values, but the usage is incorrect. Explanation of the error, and a revision of the error, follows each example. 1. Open enrollment for 2018 runs from November 1 December 15. A connective symbol linking two values in a number range functions as a replacement for from and to (or between and and), not just the latter word (though only to is pronounced when the number range is read aloud, hence the confusion), so do not precede a number range formatted this way with from (or between): â€Å"Open enrollment for 2018 runs November 1–December 15.† If the word from is retained, to should replace the symbol. (Note also that the symbol should be an en dash, not a simple hyphen- except when a publication’s style guide specifies use of that symbol- and that no letter spaces should intervene.) 2. Five-thousand service members are expected to participate in the event. Hyphenation is used in spelled-out numbers only to link two words representing two place values, as in seventy-five. â€Å"Five thousand† modifies â€Å"service members† but is an open compound: â€Å"Five thousand service members are expected to participate in the event.† Note that large round numbers are often spelled out in isolation but should be treated as figures if other numbers appear in proximity, but numbers should always be spelled out at the head of a sentence. (If doing so is awkward, as in the case of a large precise number such as that representing a year like 2017 that requires more than a couple of words to convey, recast the sentence.) 3. The most fatalities occurred in the 15-24 year old age group. In most books and in some publications, style would dictate that the numbers in this sentence should be spelled out. However, in other content, or in a case in which using numerals is preferable (as when a concentration of numbers occurs), the phrase in which the figures appear should be treated as shown here: â€Å"The most fatalities occurred in the 15- to 24-year-old age group.† (When numbers are spelled out, the sentence should read, â€Å"The most fatalities occurred in the fifteen- to twenty-four-year-old age group.†) The hyphen does not function as a linking symbol connecting two figures in a number range; it links words that are part of a phrasal adjective, an abridgement of â€Å"15-year-old to 24-year-old† in which the first instance of â€Å"year-old† is omitted because it is clearly implicit. (This tactic, called suspensive hyphenation, renders such phrases more concise and less cluttered. In addition, the sentence can be further pared to â€Å"The most fatalities occurred among 15- to 24-year-olds.†) Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? The Key Aspects of Marketing and Sales Professionals Essay

The Key Aspects of Marketing and Sales Professionals - Essay Example Clients on the other hand look for quality products and services that meet their needs. This paper aims at discussing some of the key aspects of marketing and sales professionals. During the marketing process, salesperson sometimes pushes products. It is worth to note that consumers are not always aware of the importance of some services and products. In such cases, consumers offer resistance as the salesperson takes an effort to sell to them. This implies that a salesperson must push for the sales of a product using five major steps. The first step is to promote a product. As a result of the promotion, an opportunity to sell the product emerges. The second step is making a representation. This involves providing a customer with details of the product including the terms of payment and price. Thirdly, the salesperson makes a proposal to the customer in order for him to purchase the product. After addressing the objections that arise, the salesperson makes a sale. Before pushing a product, one should first identify the problem being faced by the consumers and then provide a commodity that fixes their problems. During pushing of products the type of a product ma kes a difference. For example, a salesperson who wants to sell a life assurance policy to a customer may need to push for the product by emulating the 5 stages. This is based on the fact that customer may offer a stronger resistance. However, in case of a product such bottled water a salesperson may not necessarily push using all the 5 stages. One of the major expectations of the sales professional is to increase the number of clients resulting in higher commission or salary. As one enters the field of sales, he or she may have less number of customers since the customers are not aware of his products or services regardless of their quality. Through effective promotion, more customers become aware of the products or services in the market.  Ã‚
